Are You a Good Witch or a Bad Witch?

dreamstime s 35600053

A friend sent me a birthday card with “Are you a good witch or a bad witch?” on the front. The inside said, ”Either way, have a wicked awesome birthday.” It was, of course, a “Wizard of Oz” themed card.

My initial answer to the question on the front of the card was that it depends upon who I am dealing with. I can be a good witch. Or I can be a bad witch. Treat me with respect and I’ll be a good witch and treat you the same. Mess with me or those I care about and I can turn into a bad witch in a nano-second.

I’m not sure if this is good or bad. Part of me thinks that we should always be who we are (“good”) and not let the actions of others push us into being something we are not (“bad”). However, I also think we all need to create and defend our boundaries on what treatment we accept from others.

Maybe “good” and “bad” isn’t so much about what we do, but why we do it. What are your thoughts?
