This Thanksgiving, be Thankful

This is a great time of year to stop and reflect on all the “good stuff” we have in our lives. The first thing to do is recognize that we do, indeed, have good things. If we don’t recognize these things, we can never appreciate them and be grateful for them. (Although we will probably miss them when they are gone.)

When I was younger, I was thankful mostly for accomplishments and achievements, for the results at the end of the journey. Now, I’m more thankful for the journey itself, the experiences I had, and the people that were with me during the journey.

I am also more thankful now for the things that I used to take for granted. Health is a good example. Overall, I am still in good health (actually very good health for my age). However, I find that it takes me longer to become healthy again after an illness. I tire more easily than I when I was younger. Now that I don’t bounce back as quickly as I used to, I realize I should have appreciated it more when I could.

I encourage you to think about the “good stuff” that you have in your life. And then ask yourself what more you have, and what more beyond that, and beyond that, and beyond that. I think you will find that there is a great deal more positive going on in your life than negative. I encourage you to reflect on these things and be thankful for what you have.
